Selection should never take more than a few minutes, but given the huge variety of potential formats that documents arrive in, it's easy to get stuck (especially when the source document is confusing to start with!). This guide will get you unstuck again.

If after reading this, it's still taking more than 5 minutes to select because of the document structure, it's often better just to change the source document into a simpler structure or even copy and paste the questions into our example template and answer from there.
Most documents 'can' be selected, but that doesn't mean it's always worth doing (even if you need to copy the answers back again at the end). The purpose of Answertree is to match questions to answers and collaborate on documents together. It should never cost you time and annoyance to do this, so don't be afraid to spend 10 minutes copying things around. You'll still save many hours of time on the document itself and get all of the other benefits of Answertree!

We recommend reading our Selection Guide . Answertree understands many question and document formats, so often there's a simple way to select the questions. There are a few tricks in here that are worth knowing to!
If you're already familiar with how selection works then:
We suggest reading the Selection Guide first. There's (almost) always a way to select the document. Some advanced options include 'breaking a selection apart' or even using the 'parts' selection to build up a question and answer bit by bit. If the solution is simple, then it's worth doing. If it would mean clicking through many many options all the way down the document then it probably isn't, and you should cut your losses and adjust the format to something more straight or copy and paste the questions into our example templates.
