This article explains how to select questions from Word and PDF files. In this lesson, we'll cover the most common types of selection.
We're using the same example document on all lessons:
Word vs PDF
When you load a PDF into Answertree, it will convert it into a Word document first - so selection works the same for both file types.
Note: If you have an older Word format file (.doc), you'll need to load it up in Word and save it as a .docx first before you begin.
Single Question Selection
The simplest form of selection is where you click on a paragraph (or drag your cursor over multiple paragraphs / images and tables that make up the question), then click the 'Question' option in the Selections Panel.
Removing and altering selections
If you wish to update, remove or configure a selection once it's been made, you can click to select it from the Selection Panel, or from the document itself.
Selecting lists of questions
Most documents arrange questions together in groups. These might be lists or tables. When you drag over a list of paragraphs, bullets or numbered items, you'll see the options to select multiple questions at once.
Pro Tip: Answertree will suggest the most probable selector just above your selection.
Table selections
Table selection is a bit more sophisticated than lists, as there are more ways that questions can be laid out. Because selecting tables works exactly the same in Word and Excel, we'll explain more about it in the next Lesson!
Next Up
Now you can select basic questions from Word, it's time to move onto tabular selection. This works just the same in Word and Excel.
